Don’t lose sleep over your Instagram feed.
- Make your screen time count. How you use your time on screen is important. Spending an evening watching a show or movie virtually with friends can be an excellent way to socialize during these difficult times, making the activity a net positive. On the other hand, scrolling through social media sites endlessly without any particular agenda is unlikely to improve your mood, and it’s going to make it harder to fall asleep.
- Use one device at a time. While multitasking is often praised these days, focusing on one device will allow you to finish the task at hand more quickly, and in the long run, potentially limit your daily screen use.
- Don’t bring your phone to bed. Blue light aside, staring at Instagram or reading the news as you are trying to get your mind ready for bed is going to backfire. Quieting your mind is a key part of falling asleep and staying asleep, so make sure to end your doomscrolling well before you’re hoping to drift off.
